Posture is one of the most important aspects of our daily life. Don’t believe me? Well, having bad posture can lead to a myriad of health problems that affect the quality of your health. Not to mention that it also impacts how other people see you. In any given situation, it takes 7 seconds to make a first impression. If in those 7 seconds you’re slouched over, it automatically reflects the wrong kind of message. So here are some tips on how to improve your posture:
- Make sure that when you are seated, you are sitting all the way back in your seat. This allows the seat to support your body and keep you comfortable.
- Once you have situated yourself correctly, check that your feet are placed firmly on the ground (If this is not possible, try using a foot rest). This helps stabilises your lower back and keeps the blood flowing correctly.
- Throughout the day take little breaks from being seated such as 5 minutes of standing every hour. This allows your body to stay active and to ward off stiffness
- Ensure that as you work, your monitor is kept at eyelevel and your keyboard is kept close to you. This is essential as a badly placed monitor causes strain on your eyes that can have long term effects while a badly placed keyboard can strain your wrists.
